Safety culture for automation in transport companies
Speaker: Christina Stave, PhD. Researcher at VTI, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute

The development of Autonomous Vehicles (AV) is technology driven and AV can increase safety in transports but can also create new risks. These new risks need to be identified and analyzed to avoid negative consequences such as risks transferred to other road users and working tasks that are poorly suited for human work. When AV are introduced in transport companies, they need to change their business models, operations as well as to work systematically with safety at all levels in the company. This entails that the safety culture in transport companies is a significant factor to manage AV in their business in a safe and efficient way.

This SAFER pre-study includes: (i) interviews with project leaders and developers of AV and (ii) a workshop with experts analyzing different aspects of safety culture with regard to AV. The result from the pre-study will be summarized into guidelines and a research application. The results so far will be presented at the SAFER seminar. This project is a collaboration between VTI, TÖI, Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) and RISE.

Eye tracking, vision and attention
Speaker: Katja Kircher, Senior Researcher, Research Leader for Road User Attention at VTI, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute

In transportation research and elsewhere, eye tracking is often considered as the go-to method to assess user attention, based on the assumption that foveal vision indicates what a user is focusing on. Although this approach is certainly justified in many cases, we should not forget the limitations associated with it. In this lunch seminar, I will talk about some things that we should keep in mind when using eye tracking as a method.

This seminar is only open for SAFER partners and affiliates. Missing your invitation? Please contact Mikael von Redlich.
