In the presentation we will briefly look into the current traffic safety situation in Finland. The current number for fatal accidents in year 2022 is 196. If it holds up when changed from preliminary to final, it is the first time since ages, that we have less than 200 fatal accidents in road traffic. The presentation will build an understanding of how the national targets and actions are at the moment created and followed and how local traffic safety work is structured in Finland. We will also take a look at how we at The Finnish Road Safety Council address campaining and lifelong education to promote safer traffic behaviour.
The Finnish Road Safety Council promotes safety on roads by influencing people’s behaviour and the traffic safety culture in Finland. We are a central organization with 54 member communities. Our 12 local offices reach out to citizens all around the country. According to the Act on the Road Safety Council (278/2003), the purpose of our organisation is to promote road safety through education, communication and research. We guide and coordinate the road safety work of our member communities, launch initiatives and promote road safety in various ways.
