SAFE Move for older drivers: A French-Swedish research initiative to keep the balance between safety and mobility
The regulation of driving activity according to one’s actual motor, visual and cognitive state is crucial for continuing to drive in a safe manner, for maintaining mobility and autonomy and for reducing accident risk. The SAFE MOVE project is based on the hypothesis that a correct estimation of one’s driving ability is necessary to drive safely in older drivers. A cohort study is conducted to identify the determinants of driving regulation, i.e. factors leading to under- and overestimation of cognitive performances and driving ability that can be identified and can be used as input for the joint design of a driving simulator-based training curriculum and a learning management system and also for the development of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) including a driver monitoring function in the car itself.
