Congratulations to Erik Brynskog – new Chalmers Doctor in Vehicle Safety!

Mar, 21 2025

Today, Erik Brynskog successfully defended his thesis and can now call himself a Doctor at Chalmers University of Technology! A big congratulations from the entire SAFER community!

Erik has been a PhD student at the Injury Prevention Group within the Division of Vehicle Safety at Chalmers University, conducting research in human body computational modelling to enable injury prediction in car crashes. His research has primarily been based on computer simulations using vehicle and human body models, where the models are calibrated and validated against experimental data. The goal has been to develop human body models that can predict the effects of new safety countermeasures, in terms of lives saved and injuries reduced, before the systems reach the market.

During his PhD studies, Erik has been involved in several SAFER connected human body modelling projects, including for example Future Occupant Safety for Crashes in Cars (OSCCAR).

The opponent for the dissertation was Senior Scientist Bronislaw Gepner from the Center for Applied Biomechanics at the University of Virginia, USA. His main supervisor has been Johan Davidsson, with co-supervision by Johan Iraeus and Bengt Pipkorn. The examiner was Professor Robert Thomson from the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences at Chalmers.

A huge congratulations to Erik! We look forward to following his continued contributions to traffic safety research!
