SAFER Thursday Lunch Seminar - Model-Based Systems and Safety Engineering in the Context of Autonomous Vehicles
We welcome our hosts of the day Beatriz Cabrero-Daniel and Christian Berger, University of Gothenburg and our guest speaker Marcus Nolte, PostDoc, KTH
Abstract
Automated vehicles challenge traditional safety engineering: They need to operate in an open, unpredictable world, uncontrollable for engineers after deployment. In consequence, safety claims for automated driving systems are always subject to design-time assumptions about the real world. Classic assurance approaches must therefore be complemented by a continuous validation of assumptions over the system's safety lifecycle. This entails carefully designing AI datasets and systematically collecting evidence to validate safety claims. This talk discusses challenges, ideas, and chances how rigorous Model-Based Systems and Safety Engineering approaches can establish traceability across the required data lifecycle.
About Marcus
Marcus has recently joined KTH, Stockholm, as a TECoSA PostDoc. Before, he was a PostDoc at the Institute of Control Engineering at TU Braunschweig, Germany, where he also received his PhD in Systems and Safety Engineering for Automated Vehicles. He holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Mechatronics and Control from TU Braunschweig. During his PostDoc in Germany, he has worked on ethical aspects related to safety engineering for automated vehicles. His research has focused on domain-specific tailoring of Model-Based Systems and Safety Engineering methods, and is currently expanding methodologies towards continuous safety and trustworthiness assurance for AI-based systems.
Practical Information
