The roads are talking – and C-ITS is now part of the SAFER partner project portfolio
Imagine a world where cars, buses, and traffic lights communicate with each other in real time. It’s not science fiction – it’s C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems). While the technology has been tested in multiple Swedish and European pilots, a cohesive national strategy and robust deployment framework is still missing in Sweden.
That’s where the new project “Robust and Secure Deployment of C-ITS” comes in – and we are happy to announce that it’s now officially part of the SAFER partner project portfolio! This means the insights and results will be embedded in a broader ecosystem of knowledge-sharing, applied research, and long-term safety benefits.
The project takes a comprehensive approach to ensure that C-ITS can be deployed safely, securely and effectively in Sweden. Key goals include:
- Creating a national vision and roadmap for C-ITS
- Developing test scenarios and validation methods for function and cybersecurity
- Real-world testing at AstaZero’s advanced proving ground
- Engaging stakeholders from industry, academia, government and international networks
And it’s not just about the tech – societal perspectives, gender equality, user needs and resilience are also in focus. For SAFER, this is an exciting opportunity to connect research with real-world application – advancing safer, smarter and more cooperative transport systems.
The project is funded by Drive Sweden through Vinnova’s strategic investment in future mobility.
Project partners include:
- Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket)
- RISE
- Volvo Cars
- Volvo Group
- Sweco
- Lund University
- City of Gothenburg
- AstaZero
