CCAMbassador – Turning future road safety from vision to reality

Nov, 07 2025

Imagine a future where cars, buses, and roads talk to each other – where traffic flows smoothly, safely, and sustainably. That future is coming closer thanks to a new European collaboration that the SAFER partner VTI is now part of: CCAMbassador.

Funded by Horizon Europe, tis SAFER partner project aims to contribute to bridging the gap between research and real-world implementation in the field of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM).

As the name suggests, the project will act as an ambassador for CCAM – connecting researchers, industry, authorities, and citizens. Together, the partners will identify what’s needed to move from testing to real operations, while promoting and providing arenas for shared learnings and common ways of evaluating CCAM actions across Europe.

The project will:

  • Strengthen cooperation between CCAM actors across Europe.
  • Expand and enhance the EU-wide CCAM Knowledge Base.
  • Promote the use of the common evaluation methodology EU-CEM.
  • Support stakeholders in turning research results into real services.

For Sweden, VTI participates as a project partner, represented by Ingrid Skogsmo and colleagues.

“We want to help Europe’s actors to move from CCAM testing to useful real-world implementations – and to do it in a safe and knowledge-driven way,” says Ingrid.

CCAMbassador runs from June 2025 to May 2028 and takes over from the completed FAME project as the new Coordination and Support Action (CSA) of the CCAM Partnership.

Through this project, the SAFER community will have the opportunity to follow developments closely, share insights, and contribute to spreading knowledge that can accelerate the transition toward a safer and more sustainable transport system.
