New Steering Group to lead SAFER’s strategic development from 2026
SAFER is entering a new phase in its organisational structure based on a three year agreement 2026-2028 – with a Steering Group now taking the lead in the strategic development of the collaboration platform.
Until now, SAFER’s strategic work has been guided by a board, comprised of representatives from the previous core partners, complemented by a tactical Research Council responsible for implementing the operational work plan. From 2026, these two functions are merged into one, a unified Steering Group, to strengthen strategic alignment and ensure that SAFER continues to evolve as a relevant, partner-driven, and impactful collaboration platform.
The Operational team will continue to focus on facilitating project creation, dissemination, and ensuring that partners’ knowledge needs are transformed into practical actions. Meanwhile, the Working Groups remain an essential foundation for SAFER’s knowledge-building.
The new Steering Group, chaired by Thomas Andersson, Volvo Cars, will formally begin its work in January 2026. With this strong and diverse group, SAFER is well equipped to continue shaping the future of traffic safety — together with 50+ partners.
