Full title: Tio år av trafiksäkerhetskultur och organisatorisk säkerhet – vad lär vi oss av Skyltfonden? A Decade of Road Safety Culture and Organisational Safety: Insights from Skyltfonden-Funded Projects

Organisational and cultural factors are increasingly recognised as essential components of effective road safety work. Over the past decade, the Swedish Transport Administration's Road Safety Fund (Skyltfonden) has financed numerous projects addressing road safety culture, workplace road safety, leadership, behavioural change, and organisational responsibility. Despite this, there is currently no consolidated understanding of the knowledge generated or the long-term impact achieved.  

This project aims to synthesise lessons learned from ten years of Skyltfonden-funded projects related to road safety culture and organisational safety. Through project mapping, targeted literature review, analysis of selected projects, and interviews with former project leaders, the study investigates which recommendations emerged, how results were disseminated, and whether they were implemented in practice. Particular attention is given to identifying success factors and barriers to implementation.

The findings will be discussed within SAFER’s Working Group for Organisational Traffic Safety and analysed in relation to Vision Zero, the Stockholm Declaration, and recent global road safety recommendations. The project will provide a unique perspective on "what happened next" after project completion and assess how research and development efforts have translated into real-world impact.  

The expected outcome is a consolidated knowledge base that identifies strengths, gaps, and future priorities for organisational road safety. By connecting past experiences with current policy needs, the project aims to support more effective implementation of road safety measures and contribute to the continued development of safe and sustainable transport systems.

Traffic safety benefit: By identifying which initiatives in road safety culture and organisational safety have been successfully implemented and proven effective, the project will help direct future investments towards measures with the greatest potential to reduce road crashes and strengthen safety performance across organisations and society.
