Docent Lecture: Traffic Safety - by a System Approach with focus on long-term medical consequences
Helena Stigson, Folksam and Division of Vehicle Safety, Department of Applied Mechanics, Chalmers University of Technology welcomes you to her docent lecture.
Lecture Title: Traffic Safety – by a System Approach with focus on long-term medical consequences
Helena Stigson completed her PhD in 2009 at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. The overall objective of her research during the years has been to study road crashes using a system approach to identify system weaknesses as well as important factors that need to be addressed to further develop a safe road transport system. As fatalities from crashes decrease, focus on long-term medical consequences following crashes becomes more essential. Only a few have the possibility to follow an initial injury over a long period time to analyse possible long-term consequences.
As a researcher at Folksam Helena Stigson has had this opportunity. Furthermore, in her position at Folksam Helena Stigson has been responsible for several research projects. One was called Green Light, aimed to evaluate a “Pay How You Drive” car insurance concept. Other projects have concerned for example testing of devices for protection of bicyclists.
The lecture will provide an overview of the road transport system from the perspective of a system approach and how the focus rapidly has changed from car occupants to vulnerable road users’ environment in the city. Helena Stigson will also discuss strategies how the most common injuries among cyclists could be prevented.
Everyone is welcome!
