Full title: Advanced Virtual Development Methods for evaluating Communication of Automated Vehicles and VRUs
This project explores how external Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) can be used by Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) to communicate their presence and intentions to nearby Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs). Virtual Reality will be used to secure efficient evaluations and reliable results. The outcomes will support future rapid development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in both automated and manually driven vehicles, including additional needs arising from e.g. silent electric drivelines. The project will provide an overview of existing audio/visual communication solutions; study how to perform a VR test with regards to both technology and study design; and form a case-study in which a conceptual HMI solution is tested in a VR study.
