Project

COLLISION MATRIX FOR HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES WORLDWIDE

Period
1 June-30 September 2024
Project manager
Tania Dukic Willstrand

Today the private sector wants to step up and to accelerate the effort to reduce road fatalities. In parallel, a sustainability approach context is growing. There is also a novel methodology called ‘traffic safety footprint’ where organisations need to identify their impact on traffic safety, i.e. what is the organisation’s impact on the number of deaths and injured in traffic. In this context, the transport sector and more specific the vehicle industry would need to identify their share of deaths on the road fatalities. Thus, new type of data needs to be collected to increase the knowledge in this domain. EU has produced since 2019 a matrix which tells the number of deaths for each road users in collisions with other main vehicle . This explorative study will dialogue with several stakeholders to have a clear picture on availability of data on road-users’ deaths in collision with HGV and how this work could be done where data is missing today. Dialogue with following stakeholders will be initiated with the aim to engage them for the next phase:

This explorative study will deliver a description on how EU is working to build the collision matrix for HGV and how this work can be done in other regions with relevant stakeholders. The markets where our industrial partners are present will be prioritise.
