COMCY
Full title: Comfortable Overtaking of Cyclists on Rural Roads
The goal of ComCy is safer and improved overtaking behaviour on rural roads, with the vision of making rural roads more accessible for cycling and other active transportation. If more people want to and can choose cycling, we will achieve more sustainable travel and an improved environment. Through baseline measurements and treatment assessments, the potential for increased cycling on roads is calculated. A survey is run and cycling “citizen scientists” collect data in real traffic in Sweden and the USA. A training concept for car and heavy vehicle drivers is developed based on established traffic education methods. GIS is used for scaling up. ComCy’s communication experts establish a strategy for disseminating the project results among decision-makers and the public.
ComCy is funded by Vinnova within the framework of the Human-Centered Mobility program. The project is run in collaboration with, among others, If, Chalmers, POC, Volvo Group, Scania, STR, KTH, the Swedish Transport Administration and several regions (Region Skåne, Visit Värmland, VGR). From the USA, the cycling and walking research centers at the universities of Berkeley and New Mexico are participating, contributing expertise in everything from physiology and safety data to policy analyses and community contacts.
