Project

Development of Active HBM in Frontal Impact Situations

Period
1 September 2009–31 July 2011
Project manager
Bengt Pipkorn

Human body models (HBM) and detailed mathematical models of body regions are essential for simulating pre-crash and in-crash occupant kinematics and supplementary in research for development and evaluation of pre-crash systems as well as multiple events. The models enable simulation of precrash and in-crash occupant kinematics in order to develop advanced restraint systems, reconstructions of real life crashes and to develop injury criteria, thresholds etc to enable the developments of assessment methods of new restraint systems. Such a model will typically be sensitive for different loading directions of varying low g-levels, tuneable for different occupant sizes and muscle tonus, including bracing. This project is one of the first steps towards the formation of a competence platform at SAFER/Chalmers within the field of active HBM model kinematics and advanced FE-modeling for injury prediction. Cooperation with international partners will be established, e.g. TU Delft, KTH, LMU, UVA.
