Project

Development of injury risk curves for use with the BioRID II

Period
1 January–31 December 2016
Project manager
Johan Davidsson

The aim of the project is to construct injury risk curves for the prediction of WAD for the BioRID ATD using existing BioRID II tests data and insurance data. Insurance data from rear-end accidents, with available accident recorder and injury data, and matching BioRID II sled test data will be used in this study. Approximately 282 accidents, that occurred with 13 different car models, will be paired with BioRID II data and used to construct injury risk curves using survival analysis in accordance with the guidelines defined within ISO/TC22/SC12/WG6. Curves will be generated for several injury metrics and for initial symptoms, for those lasting for more than 1 month and for those that were classified as a permanent medical impairment. Three means of pairing the data will be evaluated. First, available accident data will be paired with BioRID II data from sled tests using the medium Euro NCAP pulse. The differences between the sled pulse used and the accident severities will be included as a coverable in the curve constructions. Second, selected accidents will be paired with BioRID II data from sled tests using the low, medium and high Euro NCAP pulses. Only accidents with severities that will be close to any of the sled pulses used will be included in the curve construction. Third, regression equations that relates injury metric values with sled pulses will be generated. For each accident BioRID II injury metric values will be estimated using the regressions and curves that will be constructed.
