Project

EDR - Electronic Data and Reconstruction

Period
1 August 2011–31 March 2012
Project manager
Robert Thomson

Event Data Recorders (EDR) are found in an increasing number of vehicles. The applications of the data stored during a crash are known to assist in accident investigations, but a qualitative investigation of what data elements are needed from both EDR and on site and vehicle data collection is still lacking. The project objective is to see the relationship between classic accident investigations and the value of new data in EDRs by analysing a specific case through a blind study (i.e. the researchers were not part of the original investigation).
