Joint efforts to increase bicycle helmet use

Swedish title: Kraftsamling för ökad cykelhjälmsanvändning

Joint effort to increase bicycle helmet use brings together and mobilises organisations across Sweden to raise helmet use, especially in environments where children cycle, such as around schools and along key cycling routes. A national website will make it easy for actors to join, showcase who is participating, and highlight the actions being implemented. The project will support participating organisations with shared communication materials, practical knowledge summaries, and ongoing horizon scanning, as well as a new survey on drivers and barriers to helmet use to provide a strong evidence base for targeted communication. NTF will also run internal capacity-building, proactive outreach, and collaborative webinars to spread good practice and accelerate implementation. As a clear follow-up measure, helmet observations will be carried out in all 290 municipalities, with feedback to participating municipalities and a foundation for continued monitoring over time. The traffic safety benefit is increased helmet use and, consequently, a reduced risk of severe head injuries in cycling crashes.
