Full title: Accident Frequency in work-related driving and its Economic Consequences
Company cars are a big part of everyday road traffic, but their role in traffic safety has received relatively limited attention. They are involved in around 45 percent of fatal crashes, while accounting for only 28 percent of total vehicle kilometres travelled. This suggests a clear overrepresentation — and raises important questions about risk, responsibility and prevention.
SAFECAR focuses on work-related use of light vehicles, such as passenger cars and vans that can be driven with a category B licence. The project looks at how accident risk differs between private car use and work-related driving, what the work-related accidents cost society, and why the risks differ. By combining accident-risk analysis with estimates of societal costs using ASEK values, SAFECAR aims to provide a stronger basis for measures that can reduce both accidents and their consequences.

Traffic safety benefit: Identifies differences in accident risk between private car use and work-related driving with light vehicles, and estimates the societal costs of these accidents. The results provide a basis for targeted measures to reduce fatalities, injuries, health care costs etc.
