Project

Safety for an Ageing Population 2

Period
1 January 2009–30 September 2016
Project manager
Thomas Broberg

Looking at the demographics of the world the population in the age span 60 years and above is growing and with them the demand for safe and sound individual transportation. There is both a customer need and a business opportunity to specifically address this growing consumer group. The target group of senior drivers will also grow more and more important from a customer and safety perspective to the automotive industry and consequently the need for adequate and highly qualitative scientific research will also grow significantly. The purpose of this project is to further expand research into the growing area of senior drivers and establish a well reputed knowledge base in West Sweden whilst further capitalizing and expanding on the resources already allocated within Human Factor research at Volvo Cars and SAFER including the usage of data retrieved within the FICA, EuroFOT and other existing projects. For Volvo Cars as a safety leader it is also a must to further increase the in-house knowledge regarding older drivers and their needs from a real life perspective in order to meet our ambitious vision and plan for safety the coming 20 years.
