Speaker: Linda Meiby, Scania
Needs for smart HMI will continue to increase during the shift towards autonomous electrified and connected vehicles. As the narrow bridge between the human brain of several thousands of years in the making, and ever-faster-changing-technology, new HMI challenges for the heavy truck industry include for ex:
- How to make VRU communicate with autonomous vehicles
- How to keep highly assisted drivers stimulated and awake
- How to monitor, control and operate vehicles from afar
Road Safety in Africa - Results from the SaferAfrica project.
Speaker: Dr. Jac Wismans, Chalmers
SAFER is one of the partners in the EC Horizon 2020 project SaferAfrica. Based on the United Nation’s 2011-2020 Decade of Action for Road Safety, the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) defined the African Road Safety Action Plan 2011-2020 focused on promoting the implementation of measures to improve road safety in Africa. The SaferAfrica project is based on the idea that Europe could play an important role by supporting African countries in improving road safety and achieving the Action Plan targets. The project aims building favourable conditions and opportunities for the effective implementation of road safety actions in African countries by setting up a Dialogue Platform between Africa and Europe. SAFER was involved in a number of work packages, among others dealing with Road safety data and Safety Performance Indicator collection, standardisation of vehicles and road infrastructures and curricula definition and e-learning tools. The project ends in Sept. 2019. In the presentation an overview of the road safety problems in Africa and the main results of the project will be presented.
