New project in SAFER’s portfolio – SYNERGIES is securing reliable data for safe mobility
SAFER is excited to announce a new and innovative project in our portfolio, aiming to improve and secure reliable data for research and development of CCAM systems (Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility). The project, starting in the summer of 2024, will provide our partners with a unique opportunity to build valuable knowledge and enhance traffic safety by providing tools and a European data space for the development, training, virtual testing, and validation of automated vehicles. The project will be called SYNERGIES – “Real and synthetic scenarios generated for the development, training, virtual testing and validation of CCAM systems”.
Project purpose
The main goal of the project is to fully enable the development, training, virtual testing, and large-scale validation of CCAM systems by strengthening the Safety Assurance Framework created in the SUNRISE project. It will also provide access to a unified European Scenario Dataspace. Expected results include open datasets from various sources, best practices for data collection and scenario identification, data processing tools, and gaining acceptance through stakeholder engagement and standardization.
Traffic safety benefits
The SYNERGIES project will contribute tools and a data platform to support the development, training, virtual testing, and validation of CCAM systems. This will improve the safety of future automated mobility systems.
Connection to the SUNRISE project
Synergies is closely linked to the SUNRISE project (see more info here), which runs until August 2025 and aims to enable the safe and large-scale deployment of automated vehicles on European roads. Both projects share the vision of strengthening safety frameworks to validate the reliability of CCAM systems, which is crucial to achieving the EU's long-term goal of zero road fatalities and serious injuries by 2050. This project is an important addition to SAFER’s portfolio and strengthens our shared efforts to create safer and more reliable mobility systems for the future.
