Welcome back to work!

Aug, 18 2021

Dear SAFER friends,

We in the SAFER secretariat hope that you’ve all been able to enjoy a nice summer with some well-deserved rest. We certainly have, but now we are excited to kick-off work and look forward to working with you all again!

During the autumn, lots of exciting things will happen! One major activity will be SAFER’s 15 year anniversary and we want to celebrate that together with you September 29, read more about the activities here. SAFER’s appreciated Thursday lunch webinars will be back September 2nd with presentations from our four new partners Agreat, Consenz, Knightec and Tier, not to be missed! You can find the complete schedule for the autumn here.

Other priorities for us during this autumn will be to feed in to and influence the ERTRAC road safety roadmap, which will serve as a base for the forthcoming calls within Horizon Europe. We plan to move on with events related to the UN conference on road safety in Sweden last year; for example, a number of activities related to Modal shift and support safety for unprotected road users, according to the recommendations from the UN conference, will be run. Also, we will continue to support and develop our new competence networks. It's so nice to see the incredibly great interest from so many of you, the desire to be involved and to share and build knowledge within these fields.

Boost project creation and help facilitate collaboration between the partners are also one of our key priorities. We plan to arrange project creation workshops and support ideas for the SAFER pre-study programme as well as to continue to proactively identify and communicate key results from our research projects.

We also want to take the opportunity to recommend Lindholmen Open Day 16 September. During the day exciting online activities and interesting lectures with innovative spice on the theme of local attractiveness & global competitiveness are offered - do not miss this! SAFER will participate with the presentation "Lives saved through road safety collaboration between India and Sweden". During the day, it will also be revealed who will take home the prestigious title of Collaborator of the Year – take the opportunity to cast a vote for SAFER!

We will also plan for post Corona at SAFER – how do we want to meet and work together? We think that many of the online activities, workshops included, have worked out very well and we have been able to reach out to more people than we normally do, but we really miss to meet in person and the spontaneous talks and exchange of ideas.

Finally, we will start planning for the sixth phase of the SAFER partnership, starting in 2024, and we will come back to you and ask for input, discuss needs and draft initial ideas.

SAFER continues to monitor the situation concerning Covid-19. The office will be open with normal operation and you are most welcome to drop by for meetings or use our touch-down desks for work. We will continue to follow Folkhälsomyndigheten’s and Chalmers recommendations, keeping the distance and behaving responsibly.

Our Office manager Mikael von Redlich will be working from Malmö every second week (even weeks) beginning August 23rd. Uneven weeks he will be at the SAFER office with normal working hours. However, you can always reach him online, via email or phone even if he is not physically at the office. Practical details concerning keys and such are best handled when he is present at SAFER, don’t hesitate to contact him with your questions.

The rest of the secretariat will be on site most working days with some occasional days working from home or at external meetings. Please do not hesitate to contact any one of us if you have questions.

We are looking forward to an exciting autumn!

Kind regards,

The SAFER secretariat
