Pre Automotive Cooperative Technologies (PreAct)

This document describes the work carried out in the project PreACT, which is short for Pre Automotive Cooperative Technologies and “Pre” hints that this is a pre-project for a larger project to be applied for in the future. In this pre-project we aim to compare candidates for wireless system in V2X communications using cooperative functions. To do that a new model for categorization of such cooperative functions is defined which helps us to categorize the cooperative functions in three dimensions: spatiality, temporality and scope. Furthermore, performance of the candidates for wireless communication system (IEEE 802.11p, 3G and 4G) are evaluated. The evaluation is performed in two steps; first an inventory of state of the art in the area is performed and secondly an experimental platform is developed at SP (including nodes from the CVIS project) and used to test communication performance. Having defined a model for categorization of cooperative functionality, requirements from three futuristic cooperative functions are determined, and finally compared with the performance metrics found in the evaluation of the wireless systems.
