Project

Developing Targets for Testing of Rear-End Collisions

Period
1 November 2009-30 September 2010
Project manager
Jan Jacobson

When developing active safety, testing on test tracks becomes important. The function of the vehicle is tested towards different targets and dummies that resemble real vehicles. Since one cannot expose the test drivers for high collision risks the vehicle industry needs to have realistic targets and dummies. A rough estimate of requirements will be put together and different designs studied. The different solutions will then be evaluated with respect to: the ability to detect the target with different sensors; the ability of the target to handle a collision or easily be repaired after a collision; the ability to transport the target between different test tracks; cost; compare the detection of a real car.
