SAFER's fourth stage successfully concluded with celebrations

Apr, 11 2019

Vehicle and traffic safety research carried out under SAFER's umbrella during stage four, between 2016 and 2019, was presented to the partners and other interested on a lunch party April 10.

Nearly 150 people participated in the activity. During the event, the results of the research conducted on the collaboration platform were presented in an exhibition. 38 partners from industry, society and academia have participated in the collaboration. The event was also a kick-off for another 5 years of joint research.
In the exhibition, visitors could become acquainted with nudging, i.e. how to influence road users to a more safe behavior through small, smart changes in the traffic environment. A sneak preview of a future bicycle with three wheels was also presented. All the PhD students that have written their doctoral thesis in the SAFER environment were presented, together with their theses. The microwave helmet developed to diagnose internal bleeding in the brain after a traffic accident – an idea that originated from SAFER - was on display. The vehicle lab Revere, which is strongly linked to SAFER's research, is one of the true successful success stories during the stage. The researchers who are active in the lab showed several exciting techniques, including a program for simulating self-driving cars in real city environment.

During the period, 102 multidisciplinary projects have been ongoing. The project portfolio has had a value of approximately SEK 750 million.

Anna Nilsson-Ehle, Chairperson for Vinnova, and former director of SAFER, attended the celebration:
“SAFER's project portfolio is strong and contributes to Sweden's development, competitiveness, and not least to the creation of a truly sustainable transport system”.
