Summer greetings from SAFER!

Summer Summer Summer!

For several people it is perhaps already summer vacation and here at SAFER we are now completing the business before leaving for summer. The sun glitters in the water outside the office today and I would like to wish you all a lovely summer after an exciting first half of 2019.

I think the absolute highlight of spring was April 10, when we together with our partners celebrated the conclusion of our fourth stage and the result of our joint research projects for the last three years. Lots of dedicated researchers and other members of our valuable network were here and presented projects or mingled. Creating added value by working together towards a common vision is an incredibly strong feeling. What a commitment! And how far we actually came in our knowledge building. And we celebrated not only the closing of stage 4, together with 35 partners, we continue with another 5 years of joint research for a safe and sustainable traffic system. We welcomed several new partners into our community.

During the past term, we have also had a rewarding commitment on the European level, being deeply involved in ERTRAC's road map for road safety, hopefully leading to suitable funding available for SAFER projects in the upcoming research programme Horizon Europe. ERTRAC is the European Technology Platform which brings together road transport stakeholders to develop a common vision for road transport research in Europe.

We have started several really exciting projects, among other things to look at road safety from a gender perspective, the next step in the development of human body modelling and further research linked to the safety aspect of automation. Our co-operation with China within CTS has developed well and added several new funded collaborative projects to our project portfolio.

Now I look forward to a lovely summer vacation, but I also look forward to the autumn's work in SAFER Stage V. We will, after all, launch our first internal call for pre-studies, something we know is longed for by many. The autumn will also include several other value-creating activities for our partners, we are launching new competence networks and we hope for continued commitment from our partners in seminars, workshops and collaboration at calls and lots of new ideas for research and knowledge sharing. The world most renown child safety researchers gather at SAFER’s seminar Child Occupant Protection - Latest knowledge and challenges in future mobility on September 4th. We have also been given the honorary assignment to arrange several activities during the upcoming global UN conference in Stockholm in February. I’m also convinced that there will many other exciting things happening during the autumn that we are still unaware of.

Sunny regards,

Magnus Granström, Director SAFER
