Schedule for the SAFER Thursday lunch seminars during the autumn is set

We are happy to announce that we have the seminar schedule ready for our appreciated SAFER Thursday lunch seminar for the autumn set! We will continue with the current concept; all our partners are very welcome to participate in a networking lunch, starting 11:30 onsite at SAFER, and then we start up the seminar in hybrid form between 12:00- 12:45

Marco Dozza will cycle from Gothenburg to Bologna

1900 km by bike in 16 days. That is what awaits Marco Dozza, professor at Chalmers University of Technology, when he sets out on the Gothenburg-Bologna route. The aim is to collect data on road safety, and to hold presentations along the route through Europe.

Malin Svärd is our new SAFER doctor!

Today Malin Svärd has defended her thesis "Computational driver behavior models for vehicle safety applications" and she has now received her doctoral title, as well as her title as SAFER doctor.

Assessment of potential safety benefits in focus in QUADRIS

QUADRIS is the short name for Improved quantitative driver behavior models and safety assessment methods for ADAS and AD, which is the most recent project in SAFER’s portfolio. It’s the third project in a sequence of the SAFER associated projects after QUADRA and QUADRAE.

Prospective safety assessment framework in the making in new SAFER associated project

In order to set policies for road safety in the coming decades and push for Vision Zero, an accepted and reliable method for the comparison of safety measures for connected, cooperative and automated mobility is needed. Following the Safe System approach, the V4SAFETY method will deal with the safety of all road users, from vulnerable road users to vehicle occupants.

AI based in-vehicle systems for safer traffic in harsh weather conditions

The SAFER Human Body Model is going global to save more lives in traffic

With the overall purpose to make the SAFER HBM an efficient, robust and attractive tool, ready for being open available, this project encompasses the activities to quality check, document and develop proof-points to demonstrate its capabilities. These activities are structured in the following sub-tasks:

How should driver assistance systems be designed to be used more frequently?

In the new associated project, Enhanced ADAS II, the researchers will investigate how driver assistance systems should be designed to make them even more attractive and user-friendly, so that the rate of use increases.

Vivekendra Singh successfully defended his doctoral thesis, today December 16! The thesis is entitled "3-D rate dependent micromechanical model for polymer composites".

Prediction of human intention in focus in two new pre-studies

Being able to predict human behavior or ability in traffic may lead to positive traffic safety advantages. By knowing a road user’s next step, a warning to an approaching danger can be alerted or, in a vehicle, a safety system can be activated. Within the framework of the AI Enhanced Mobility program, in which SAFER is leading the traffic safety focus group, two new pre-studies will start up shortly to build knowledge in this field.

Putra, Ph.D student at the Injury Prevention Group, Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, Division of Vehicle Safety at Chalmers University successfully defended his doctoral thesis "Occupant Neck Muscle Modelling in Rear-End Crashes", today, and we have yet another SAFER doctor in the community.

A SAFER doctor has graduated: Daniel Åsljung

"On Statistical Methods for Safety Validation of Automated Vehicles" is the title of Daniel’s doctoral thesis, a work that is of interest for many SAFER partners. He successfully defended his thesis today at Chalmers University and is now a “SAFER doctor”.

AfroSAFE— Safe System for radical improvement of road safety in low- and middle-income African countries

Funding secured for further knowledge creation in Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility

As a result of SAFER's long and successful work with data collection and analysis to ensure a safe introduction of automated and connected vehicles, we have been granted the opportunity to continue this work through a new project funded within the Horizon European framework program, as part of CCAM partnership work programme 2021.

A Safety Assurance Framework for testing and safety validation will be developed in SUNRISE

SUNRISE is a new project in SAFER’s portfolio, whose full name is Safety assUraNce fRamework for connected, automated mobIlity SystEms, aiming to pave the way for safe large-scale deployment of automated vehicles on European public roads. The scope of the project is to define, implement and demonstrate the building blocks of safety assurance technologies and systems. It also aims at defining a harmonised approach to enable the massive deployment of highly automated vehicles.

Three new SAFER pre-studies approved to support the common research agenda

SAFER's pre-study program continues to generate good ideas and inspiring studies. Since the program began in April 2019, no less than 41 ideas have been submitted, and 25 projects have been granted. In the last call for 2022, three new projects got funding.

The world's elite in driver distraction research gathered in Gothenburg at the DDI conference

Over 160 delegates from 23 countries attended the 8th edition of the International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention (DDI2222) held in Gothenburg, October 19-20, 2022. The co-organisers SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers, the Université Gustave Eiffel and the University of New South Wales, are very pleased with the outcome.
